Horrifying...

I was looking around on a website for a ministry called Hands and Feet and came across this most amazing rescue. A newborn baby had been dropped 30 feet into a toilet. The crys were heard and the rescue team was called out. This is the most amazing miracle. Please watch the video of her amazing rescue.

This isn't just an isolated incident in Haiti. The people are living in such desperation that they have to go to such horrific measures to alleviate the misery for their children. Parents can not feed the children so they leave them for dead, figuring if they die they will at least be out of their pain. I was just visiting with one of the families that is adopting a precious little girl from our orphanage. Her story is another one that is horrifying. The baby's mom died while giving birth. The baby was left crying and crying, so two ladies took the baby and were going to place her in the river. Just as they were getting ready to another Haitian lady came by and told them that she knew of an American that was willing to take the baby. The ladies brought her up to the orphanage and now this precious little girl has a forever family that loves her from the depths of their hearts. This is not an uncommon thing...many babies are placed in the river. It makes my stomach turn. It is horrifying and should not be. Right now our orphanage is so full that they are turning away about 80 children a MONTH! Please, please pray that the children that have forever families will be released and more children will be saved.

This whole process is changing me to the realities of this world. I have lived my life so blind to the desperation of others in this world. I am sad to admit that I am a spoiled American. I pray that the Lord continues to transform my mind and place His desires on my heart. I find so many things that used to matter to me, have such little importance. There are children dying for no reason. There are parents that are forced to abandon their children because they can not watch them suffer any longer from starvation. Oh Lord, this can not be! Thank you, Jesus, for saving Christela...Oh God, set her apart for your purpose. God, thank you for opening my eyes to the suffering of those around me. Use me for your glory in this world!!

HI Laura
I just watched the video on Courtney's blog. It is so amazingly sad, yet so amazingly wonderful! God was all over it, and He is so good. The name Christela is absolutely perfect in it's meaning. He has great plans for this little one, whose beginnings were no more humble than our Saviour's! Thanks for sharing your heart.

She is a little miracle! But then I think about all the other babies that no one ever finds. And I share your sentiments about being changed because of the process. I'm also shocked at the apathy on the part of so many Christians when presented with the horrifying conditions there. :o(

I love Hands and Feet. Have you read the book? The guys from Audio Adrenaline went to Kentucky Christian College where both my grandfathers were professors - so their music (and now their mission) is close to my heart! They have a lot of really sweet YouTube videos... this one is my favorite:

Hi Laura,
I remember the first time we came back from Haiti. I couldn't eat. I was disgusted by the consumerism, by the waste, when so close to us, babies were dying...needlessly. This story breaks my heart, and even worse, to know that this is just one story of many, many others. Isabella is from an area of Haiti where children are put into prostitution as young as 3! Oh, for Christians to be involved. Unbelievers care a lot about social issues, but true change is only possible when social justice is partnered with the life changing message of the Gospel. May God use all of us and our humble blogs to stir the hearts of His people.

I am weeping...I am speechless, my heart hurts, oh that God would move and would change the way this world treats the poor, the orphans...that truly we would be able to be his hands and feet and that stories like this would not be the "norm" but the never to happen.

I am still praying for Haiti and what God would have me to do beside prayer.
