What are your favorite hobbies? I am trying to define what my favorite hobbies are. I like to try pretty much everything, so I am now narrowing down what things I would really like to devote my interests towards. I was talking with my friend Steffany and she is going to run a half marathon...just because she wants to know that she did it. There are so many things that I would love to do, but I get so distracted with life that I never get a chance to really focus on any particular interest. I would love to hear about you...what are your interests, hobbies, things you dream of accomplishing.
Here are some of the thoughts and dreams floating around in my head today--I would love to learn more about photography and become more experienced in the whole area of light with photos. I would love to make and finish a quilt someday...notice I said *finish*, I don't want to start this project and not finish it. I love to bake, but I don't make enough time for it. These are all hobbies that I dream of becoming more accomplished in. These are all things that I am interested in, but don't know much about. If you have any great books or websites that you have found that cover these topics please post in the comments. I need to start somewhere...I think that is part of not going for it. Where do I start?
This time of year is always a time when I get really squirrely...so maybe if I define a certain hobby that I would like to focus on it will help keep me distracted from the long winter!
Now it's your turn to tell me what your thoughts and dreams are! :)

You should join Steffany in that half marathon goal. You would be an awesome runner.
Can kids be a hobby?
Seriously though, a full marathon is my goal and hobby this year. WOO HOO!
Heth--I used to run...my kneecap rotated so I can no longer run. I wish I could...I really enjoyed it!
No, for this exercise...kids can not be a hobby! ;)
Full Marathon--YOU ROCK!! You continually AMAZE me!
*******************************
For the rest of you that are reading this and not commenting--Stop it! You MUST LEAVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS!!! :)
I think you should take up photography. I took a few classes and have a nack for it and would LOVE to get great at it.
Kids...they may not be a hobby but they are a time hog!!! :)
I would have to say my favorite hobby is stalking my friends' yellow house, peeking in the windows, trying to get a good look at her recipe cards or cookbooks.
Just kidding.
mabel
you said that you liked baking. you could make that into a sort of home ec. class for your girls. along with quilting. there would be tons of fun memories and bonding times with that.
i guess that's not really a "hobby"..but it would be fun.
Well, since winter totally stinks here my hobbies are: sitting at the computer reading blogs, watching American Idol, spending hundreds of dollars at Borders reading everything in site and eating...In the summer I love to garden, sit outside and read...
Blogging? Is blogging a hobby? If not... it should be.
I also vote for sleep. I would like to get really good at sleeping. Of course that would require that none of my little people wake me.
You are so motivated, good for you with an infant and 4 big girls! The only hobby I can ever put is scrapbooking, I like it. And instead of running could you walk. I started walking last summer regularily and most of the time alone, and it was a great time of prayer and reflection, oooh don't I sound scholarly, but really, As soon as it's up in the 30's again I'm going to start walking again.
O.K. I'm Busted. Yes, I've been reading and not leaving my thoughts.
I would love to run a marathon but I think that would kill me.
Mostly, since I just had a baby I would like to lose 30 pounds by the time I turn 30! Which is exactly 2 months from tomorrow! That's not unrealistic is it? But that doesn't qualify as a hobby. Oh, I only have a few minutes before my diet starts tomorrow. I've gotta go and find something to eat..........
I have gotten into baking. With fresh milled flour and all. (good for indoors during the winter)
Our family loves letterboxing. Great for spring, summer and fall. Great family activity.
(check out letterboxing.org)
I have been interested in photography for a few years now. Would love to take black and whites. And I would like to sew more often than I do. But I don't like to start something that I cannot finish so I nerver start. Maybe one day??
My mom always tells me to get a hobby other than my kids; but I think they are pretty fun right now!!
Crafts, crafts, and more crafts!! I love crafts! There are tons of idea books for kids out there too!
My interest? To get enough time to HAVE a hobby. ;)
I USED to run but, like you, my knees no longer allow it. I WANT To go all Crazy-Domesticated with quilting and baking, but I know me...it's not going to happen any time soon.
So...my realistic goal? Teach my kids Spanish and try to become fluent in it myself.
Not really a hobby. But, eh. I'm making a baby (preggers). My energy is limited. *wink*
I'm with Taryn on the crafts! I love to scrapbook & paper craft just about anything. You can paper craft inspirational quotes, verses, etc & hang them for decoration. You could make picture frames too! Anything with pictures. Love it all.
& drinking coffee by myself.
I always see your comments on other people's blogs that I read so I thought I would come and meet you :) My vote other than reading which is my main hobby, is embroidery. I picked this up about a year ago and love the quick and easy gratification-that being said I haven't done too much b/c I am too busy reading. I recommend Jenny Hart's Sublime stitching book and also her stitch it kit- both available on amazon. You can add cute little touches to otherwise ordinary clothing, blankets, etc. for your kids. This is a cheap and easy hobby that you can pick up whenever you have time.
I'm right there with you...
What ARE my "hobbies"??? I like to stamp and scrapbook (you can do them both together and call it scrampin'...) - in fact, that's a very, very, very part-time job for me! :-)
I really enjoy photography - and first became interested in it when I inherited my dad's old Canon years and years ago. I even took a photography class when Madelynne was a baby...but do you think I can remember anything???
Blogging has definitely become a "new" hobby of mine - it's so instantly gratifying (as opposed to scrapbooking, which I maybe do once or twice a YEAR if I'm lucky!!!).
So...those are my ramblings. If only hobbies were FREE! Are there any FREE hobbies? I guess Wife to the Rockstar mentioned sleep..that's free! ;-)
Oh yeah...and gardening...I wish I was better at that, too! And exercise - if ONLY that was a hobby of mine!
*SIGH* Maybe someday...
I am feeling squirrely too...hopefully it warms up soon!
Hobbies...let's see. I like to eat. Is that a hobby? :-)
No, really, I too like to run. Only, I really struggle to make the time to make it a priority. I may train with some of my 7th and 8th grade small group girls for a 1/2 marathon. MAY is the key word here!!! :-)
I too like to take pictures and would LOVE to learn more about photography! I would love to take a class sometime...
I also scrapbook...but, I don't know if I do it enough to call it an actual "hobby"!!
Oh...just a confession. I too read this blog one other time before I actual wrote something. Wow, I feel better now that I got that off my chest! :-)
I wish that I could write that I love to run or walk, but mostly, I don't like it. I actually have been thinking that after this pregnancy, I should try to give running another try, to see if I can "force" myslef into liking it. It seems like something I should like, but just never have. Someone once told me that once your body gets used to it, it is addictive. I don't understand that at all right now, but maybe someday??
Anyway, I like to bake, scrapbook, and photography. I also like to play piano, but don't do it nearly as often as I would like. That seems to be the running theme of all the previous comments--not enough time!!
Oh well, someday when my kids are grown and gone, I will have lots of time for hobbies. Until then, I will enjoy my kiddos, and put most of my hobbies on hold. :)
My real answer....
Laura, I think you should go for the photography and the baking...You are a great baker and cook and I am always impressed with the new recipes you try! And I also think you would do great at photography...you have an eye for color, coordination and how people and things should go together.
Now, for me, regardless of previous comments I have posted about baking lots of things with zuchini, I really don't like the stuff and never touch it. I do like to bake bread. My favorites are french, oatmeal and dill/onion bread. I also like to build furniture (simple primitive stuff) but my dream would be to go to Scandinavia - study the architecture, culture, people and especially furniture designs and then design and build Swedish primitive furniture. But, since I am a homeschooling mother of 5, with 2 adoptions hopefully on the way, I guess that won't happen for awhile!I can still dream!

I know you know how many times I've read this without posting a comment. So, I won't even try to give you an excuse..Okay?
Hobbies? We have a love/hate relationship. I love the idea of them but hate the thought that unless you have one you're not fulfilled. I love doing all types of things but hate having the burden of a job unfinished. I love trying new things but hate doing things for the first time. With that said...
I would love to learn to fly, but that would be an expensive hobby.
I have the coolest skate park in my yard so maybe I'll learn to skate vert.
And I think blogging is definitely a hobby.
I would love to scrapbook but doubt my incredibly short attention span would allow for it.
My newest "hobby" is I'm writing a script with my husband and we are having a blast. I'm also getting really excited about getting birthing kits to the women in Uganda.
Doing this half marathon with Steff will stretch me!
Other goals (and ones I desire more!):
Traveling to every Sub-Saharan African country and Haiti,
ok, that's it! ha ha. . my friends call me SF (Singular Focus!)
