Stupid Waffle!

OK I am completely disgusted with a recent news clip we saw last night. Barack Obama was eating at a cafe in Scranton when he was only able to finish half of his waffle. One of the cafe workers took the half eaten waffle and put it up for auction on ebay. As of last night's story the bidding was over $10,100. How disgusting is that!?!?!

I have been forever been changed by how I view money. I see this ridiculous bidding as almost the amount it would take to cover one adoption. One life saved! So many people are hindered by the thought of money when it comes to adoption, this could bring one child home forever. What in the world is the winner going to do with a stupid half eaten waffle of a presidential hopeful? Keep it in their freezer to get freezer burn? I'm so disgusted!

And now on top of that, some artist has painted a picture of the "half eaten Obama waffle" and has listed it on ebay. There have been 30 bids on the stupid painting so far. Why are people so ridiculously weird in these regards?

It is so disturbing! I know I can't change the world and have everyone start viewing money in comparison to how many lives "that amount" could save...but I will. And those of you who do think about adoption, but say you could never afford it...please KNOW that the LORD ALWAYS PROVIDES the money--ALWAYS! It will stretch you and will take some discipline, but it is oh so worth it! And those of you that aren't called to adoption, but have money you could sacrifice...please consider finding a family that is stepping out in faith to adopt and consider giving them a gift of money towards their adoption. We never could have done it without the incredible blessings of other believers. It was a humbling experience to receive donations towards our adoption, but look at Hudson. It was because of your generosity that brought our precious son into our arms! We continue to be forever humbled and grateful! Thank you for allowing the Lord to use you to bless our family with our son! He is the most amazing miracle!

Thanks for letting me vent about a stupid waffle!

Oh Laura....I so needed to read your words today. Sean and I have been really contemplating throwing in the towel with this adoption because of $$. I KNOW God is faithful and I've seen Him work so often but sometimes it's hard to stay strong in faith when the $$ isn't there yet! So, thanks for the reminder that God WILL provide. He spoke thru your words straight to my weary heart. And I do agree with the Obama waffle thing. When I heard Hillary raised 10 million dollars overnight I about upchucked! How is that even possible?! Money that could have been used to bring home a child or at least enable a child and his family to eat nutritious food or have a chance at a better life!!

Lisa--we started our adoption journey with nothing...we got a plane to go get our son still needing over $7,000. God's people arise to the occassion. He will not leave you...He is FAITHFUL to PROVIDE! You keep pressing on waiting with great expectation for Him to reveal His child to you!

Tara--So ya, with all that extra missionary money you've got...I think an Obama waffle would be a great "investment"!

Laura,
Thanks for your post! I struggle with the same thing, every time I see money spent on frivolous things or raise for things that seem downright stupid... i think that could have been 5 babies saved.

And I too have seen the Lord provide miraculously to redeem LIFE! He is so good.

Is it wrong to bid on the waffle if it somehow resembled the face of Jesus?

Laura Lu said...

Well, if it resembles the face of Jesus in it...that's a whole other story, I guess. ;)

This my dear political friend is a half-eaten-germ-ridden-presidential-wannabe's waffle. Nuff said.

I do like how you tried to play the "dumb blonde" card on this one though. Nice try...but you know me, I'm hard core about such stupidity!

Thank you for this! I get so sick of politics and politicians and their money. How do they think they can represent the average American when they make the kind of money they do? Most of us will never even dream of that kind of income...Drives me nuts.

EXCELLENT post! This is something I really struggle with (probably because we have no idea how we will pay for our adoption). It sickens me what people waste their money on. They could be doing so much good & helping so many adoptive families. The waffle auction is just plain sad.

Oh MY!! Can I just say that $10,100 would:

1. fund most of one adoption
2. Fund the ENTIRE school year + 3 uniforms for 198 children in Uganda
3. Feed 395 children for an ENTIRE YEAR in Swaziland
4. Sponsor 24 orphans for a YEAR

ok, I could go on, but I'll stop! aagh!
