Yesterday we went on a field trip to a bee keeper and his "honey plant". It was very interesting, in spite of the fact that I had the time down as 4:00 and it actually started at 3:30. I checked my email one more time on the way out the door to make sure I had the right directions to get there, when I realized we were now going to be late. (and here I thought I was doing so good on time. Sheesh!) As we took off, I talked with the girls about my mistake with the time. We talked about maybe just skipping the whole thing. The girls put in a vote to go shopping. tempting. very. tempting. I didn't fall for it though. We decided to just go for it, and get in as much of the tour as we could. So we drove the 45 minutes to get to the place. It was a beautifully sunny day and country roads are always relaxing...so I was glad we did it. As we were driving I kept seeing places that would make great photo opps...knowing I had my camera with me. (I never leave home without it now.)
After the tour, the honey tasting, the bee queen watching, the visiting with friends...we hopped in the car to head for home. I knew I wanted to stop somewhere to snap some shots, it just wouldn't have been right if I didn't. I remembered seeing an abandoned building just off the road with a great setting around it. I spotted it again coming from the opposite direction and pulled off the road. The girls hopped out of the car and shifted into photography mode in a nano second. (they are so used to this now) We had fun snapping shots and laughing together. Matt called while we were shooting and was not surprised to hear what we were doing. :) I told him to start boiling some water for supper and we were on our way. We snapped our final shots and got back in the car.
We had only driven maybe 10 more miles when I started grabbing for my bag, telling my oldest to "get my camera out, get my camera out...hurry, hurry!" Just off the road in a field was this huge moose. We, of course, pulled over again! I turned my flashers on because I was just off the road this time. We rolled down the passenger window and I started clicking away. I didn't get out because I didn't want that ginormous thing to charge me...moose can charge you know that, right!?!? I wasn't the only one pulled over...another lady was trying to get pics with her cell phone. (the girls found it funny) I literally climbed across the car onto my daughter's lap so I could get shot of him. He walked a little bit, looked at us, and then decided to lay down right in the middle of the field. We were amazed at how disguised he was laying there in the sun. It was really a cool experience, and we decided that was the best part of our trip...better than the bee keeper. :) Needless to say...I am so happy that we made the trek even though it would have been fun to go shopping! ;)

Um totally cool pictures. You are GOOD!
I am trying not to take the moose sighting better than honey bee tour comment personally! :)
I had heard about a moose nearby from someone at church...that is so fun!!
OH goodness Queen--we LOVED the field trip. We were just meaning that it isn't everyday that you get to drive along the road and see a huge moose next to you. Sorry if I hurt your feelings! We were so grateful that you planned the trip...it was great!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
You know me, Suepy...I'll do my best to keep everyone on their toes! ;)
Ok - I wasnt all the tips and tricks and type, etc. I love your shots, they are gorgeous. It's time for me to "invest". Love ya!
ok - so wasnt was suppose to say WANT. I want the tips and tricks. sheesh, Im a such a dork :)
A moose?!??!?!??! oh my gosh - the only moose we have seen is in our zoo!!! What's funny about Colorado is that they always have souvenirs with moose on them and moose are not indicative of our great state. Bears, yes - moose, HA!!
Can you share again what site you are getting your photography knowledge/tips from?
What a remarkable day. I have never seen a wild moose. I bet the girls got a kick out of that. I need to start carrying my camera with me more often too. David and Alexandra constantly tell me, "Mom, if only you had your camera!"
Thanks for sharing!
What a great field trip. You are such an amazing photographer.
Okay- my daughter was THRILLED AND BESIDE HERSELF when she saw that moose. She then walked around with her hands on her head (antlers) saying "i'm a moose, i'm a moose." LOL.
Love the pics - it sure doesn't hurt that your kids (all of them) are uber photogenic. Seriously. Not. Fair.
But gorgeous. Okay. i think your decision needs to be yes. :-)
Love these pics! ... what a great way to spend the drive back home!! :)
Love the pictures! WE MISS YOU!
She-She! I MISS YOU TOO!!!!! :) (Everytime I see a locator truck I think maybe it's Todd, but then remember we're too far away.)
Are you saying Meese actually exist?!?!? I'm from the streets man ... I thought they were just an urban legend.
I am actually fascinated by these meeses ... Matt ever snuck up behind one and given it a big ole slap on the tuckus? Seriously ... ever gone moose tipping?
dude--I keep telling you they can charge! They are HUGE and they look all cute and fuzzy and make you want to give them a muffin or a cookie or whatever that book says...but seriously they can do you some damage. So to answer you...nope, never done it, never will. maybe you should come visit us so you can get a little nature in your bones...it might help you stay off the streets...you hoodlum, you!
I love the pictures! Beautiful!!:) And the moose is fun too!
I was totally kidding and I knew you were too...moose sightings ARE cool!
awesome shots!!!!!
those are some really great pics!
what a wonderful day!!!!

Oh such GORGEOUS photos, Laura!! Love them! You have the post-processing thing down, I see... that is territory I have not ventured into yet. :) Cool actions you picked!
I am looking forward to our first homeschool field trip this weekend - pictures later!!

I'M ROLLING ON THE CHAIR! I just came BACK to see those beautiful pictures and beautiful children of yours, only to be greeted by MUSIC! Not just any music - the funniest song, ever! I love it - way to go girl!
I'm just hanging out here while I'm at the office, listening to your tunes and what did my ears hear?? Napoleon Dynamite! LOL. Are you as enamoured by that darn movie as I am? I don't know, maybe because it's so true of the 80's...and so sad. May the 80's NEVER return. :-)
You are talented, Laura! Great pictures of your sweet girlies!
Super cute pictures!!!!! You have such beautiful children! The moose pics are awesome too.
L--the 80's is making it's return. I just saw stir-up pants at the outlet mall today. Seriously. elastic under the foot and all. CrAzY!!!!!
Moose??? Are you still living in ND? Too cool. Oh and about those 80s--did they ever leave? ha
I just want to live somewhere that you can see a MOOSE! We just see dead cats on the side of the road here! Or people and buildings. . .not so exciting or beautiful as those pictures. I may have to take a picture of my next drive just to post. . and be jealous of you! hehe
